Funny Christmas Presents

It's almost that time of year again, when we all start looking for those perfect Christmas gifts.  With a little bit of planning, you can get funny Christmas presents for everyone on your shopping list.  If you want to make this holiday season memorable, you should definitely switch gears and buy funny Christmas presents rather than something serious or useful.  The ones you buy for will definitely remember something that makes them laugh rather than another sweater, tie, or a fruitcake.

Know Their Personality Type

Before you buy someone a funny Christmas present, you need to know their personality type.  There is a fine line between funny and offensive, and you need to know a person's humorous tolerance level.  If you cross that line, you can run the risk of offending someone, which can definitely put a damper on the holidays and be cause for large amounts of apologizing.  When in doubt, scale it back a little bit and avoid any type of embarrassing situation.

The Mooning Santa

Nothing is more hilarious than a mooning Santa. They come in multiple styles and sizes, and, depending on when you give it, can be used for a great Christmas decoration.  One of the best is the inflatable mooning Santa.  He can be displayed almost anywhere and inflates in a matter of minutes.  He stands about 4 feet tall ,proudly displaying his backside with a large grin on his face.  The inflatable mooning Santa can go anywhere, from being prominently displays in the front window, to hiding in the shower, to out in the front yard along with your annual Christmas light display.  His shoes can be filled with sand to keep him from being knocked over, but you should avoid leaving him out for prolonged period of time in cold weather, his butt gets too cold and he falls down.

Then there is the air powered moon Santa.  All you do is push the air pump and down come the Christmas trousers.  He even has a suction cup placed on his back that allows Santa to go with you in your car, allowing you to moon every car that goes passing by.  Then there's the automated moon Santa statue.  With one push of a button, he does little dance and shows some Christmas cheer.

Novelty Gifts

Not quite all funny Christmas presents have to be a gag.  The novelty gift can be a useful, quirky gifts that more suits the tastes of the recipient.  With these, the only limit is your imagination.  Sure, they may not be useful, but they are normally fun for a few weeks, and will show just how much you care.  Selecting a novelty gift for someone does require a little bit of knowledge about the person, but you won't need much.  If the person you are shopping for enjoys golf, get them a miniature desktop golf set, a set of hilarious golf head covers, or even a set of novelty golf balls.  All you need to know is one thing the person likes and how far you can take it.  Remember, funny, not offensive.

The Office Gift Exchange

     Finding a funny Christmas gift for an office gift exchange can be challenging.  To start, in many offices, you may only know a certain amount about people, so finding something personal can be difficult.  You also have to know boundaries, since you're job may be in jeopardy should you cross that magical line of political correctness.  If you go too far, then you may be spending the holiday's dealing with Human Resources.  Some general guidelines to follow;

  • Nothing of a sexual nature.  While giving funny Christmas presents that have a sexual connotation attached can be hilarious, it should be tried in the office.  Three words; Sexual Harassment Lawsuit.

  • Nothing that can be considered racist or discriminatory.  Don't think this needs to be explained, since these gifts are generally in bad taste anyway.

  • Nothing to do with Christmas.  In order to maintain order in most offices, it is referred to as a Holiday gift exchange to help celebrate all religious walks of life in the office.  Avoid things that generally have to do with Christmas, Hanukkah, Quanza, or any other late December holiday.

  • If you doubt the taste of your gift, don't give it.  If it is for someone you know outside of the office, you can give it to them outside of the office.

Office gift exchanges can be tricky, so exercise caution.  Some people may be easily offended, and you don't know it.  It is always better to air on the side of caution and get the people you know funny Christmas presents.

Funny Christmas Wrapping

Sometimes, the gag can be entirely in how the gift is wrapped.  A favorite funny Christmas present is to make looks deceiving.  Say you just bought grandma a new teapot, and while you know grandma will love it, how can you have any fun with it?  Try wrapping it in a washing machine box.  The look on grandma's face alone will be worth it.   For a package this size, here are a few tricks to pulling this off.

  1. Make sure you use plenty of packing material.  Using either packing peanuts, crumpled newspaper, or anything else will work great.  Depending on the size of the actual gift compared to the size of the gag packaging, it may be wise to actually wrap the gift in a smaller package (just like a normal gift), then placing it in the gag package.

  2. Wrapping may be difficult, so unorthodox methods may need to be used.  to save money, newspaper and a big bow works wonders.  Plus, newspaper be recycled.

  3. Timing may be everything, so you will have two options for presentation.  Either let the gift sit in the corner of the room for the entire event, or you can hide it in another room and wait until it's time to open gifts.  If you leave it in the corner of the room all night, it could build up suspense, but be boring by the time its opened.  If you wait until the gift exchange, the surprise might be a little too quick.
Then there is wrapping paper and gift bags.  While the traditional Christmas gift wrap is normally full of jolly Santa's, happy reindeer, mischievous elves, and bright shiny colors, there is also a much more nontraditional type of wrapping paper that display some funnier scenes, like a mooning elf, a drunk reindeer, or a belly dancing Saint Nick.  You can find a number of these humours Christmas wrapping online.
